Inner Alchemy

in a pale white room,
with soft glowing fire
that warms
my blood
my bones

she helps me undress

layer upon layer;
gauze and silk
soft and light
velvet drapery
ancient and heavy
delicate webbing
from magical weavers
blood-soaked muslin
decrepit and forlorn

queen and pauper
one in the same
as it all
falls down;
just for

such tenderness I have never known;
her touch meets my longing
in the tears that fall
like a river to meet the ocean

her love, she pours like
thick golden honey
into my trembling mouth,

my lips wet with
and wanting

she lays me
on the forest floor,
nestled amongst
her holy debris;
pine cone, moss
leaf and lichen

the creatures of the forest
breathe her song
into the air about me;

filling my lungs

oh, this magnificent shedding

now the alchemy begins
