May

she is
donning
her copious skirts
of green,

her pigmented jewels of
soft-petaled blossoms.

she is waking
the sleepy peep frogs
from their muddy beds,

inviting the sparrow
to nest
in her marsh-grass hair,

stretching out the days
like accordions of light.

any doubt of her arrival
is swept away
by the rapture
of her astounding beauty.

as she begins
to take up residence,

I am overcome by
her indescribable perfume
