Eyes of Wonder

she emerged
from
her inner sanctum...

and now
she could hear
the grass grow

she could feel
the rise and fall
of her own breath
as the whole mother-body
of womankind
moving within her

the sun drenched
her holy temple;
the crevices in the
earth of her soma
awash with
golden light...

the stars
resounded with
ecstatic applause
as the cosmos unfurled

expanding,
contracting...

and through a multitude
of rivers and tributaries,
her blood carried
the ancient song;

of intrinsic harmony,

the genius
of simplicity…

and she began
to sing
the song
out loud
in her own fashion...

and her song
was swept into
the wake of
other’s songs…

and the universe
rose in chorus,

every
thing
was
singing

and slowly the static
dimmed;

and the poles relaxed,
re-membering
the steps of the dance

and there she stood,
simultaneously
at the center
and the periphery

smiling…

with wide eyes of wonder
